Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how USRiskMap ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use usriskmap.com and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy. For terms governing use of the Service, see our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

We may collect:

  • Account information — email address, password (stored hashed), and optional name or profile details you provide.
  • Locations and plans — addresses, coordinates, labels, and preparedness choices you save in the Service.
  • Contact channels for alerts — email addresses and phone numbers you provide to receive email or SMS/text notifications.
  • Usage and device data — approximate location derived from IP, browser type, pages viewed, referring URLs, and similar diagnostics needed to operate and improve the Service.
  • Communications — messages you send us (for example to hello@usriskmap.com).

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service and map experiences;
  • Create and secure your account;
  • Send transactional messages and, where you opt in, hazard-related email and SMS alerts (see Section 4);
  • Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service;
  • Analyze aggregate usage to improve reliability and features; and
  • Comply with law and protect the rights, safety, and property of users and USRiskMap.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers who process it on our behalf (for example hosting, authentication, email delivery, and SMS gateways), when required by law or to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably identify you may be used or shared for research, analytics, or product improvement.

4. Email and SMS alerts

If you enroll in email or SMS (text) alerts, we use the contact details you provide only to deliver those notifications and related service messages (such as confirmation, preference changes, or opt-out instructions).

  • Consent. By providing a phone number or email for alerts and confirming enrollment (including any double opt-in we require), you consent to receive automated hazard, preparedness, and account-related messages at that address or number. Message frequency varies with conditions and your settings.
  • SMS carriers. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. You represent that you are the subscriber or customary user of the number you provide and that you will keep it accurate.
  • Opt out. You may stop SMS alerts by following the instructions in the message (for example replying STOP) or by updating preferences in your account. You may unsubscribe from marketing or non-essential email via the link in the message or by contacting us. Essential transactional email (for example password resets or critical account notices) may still be sent when needed to operate your account.
  • Not a substitute for official warnings. Alerts from USRiskMap may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable. Always rely on local authorities and the National Weather Service for life-safety decisions.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We may use local storage, cookies, or similar technologies for authentication, preferences (such as theme), and basic analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some may limit account or preference features.

6. Retention and security

We retain account and alert-related information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

7. Your choices

You may update account details in the Service, opt out of email/SMS alerts as described above, or request deletion of your account by contacting us. We may need to retain certain records where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (for example fraud prevention or completed transactions).

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
